Yep. Just for a couple of people.
It means their postings aren't immediately visible and it helps keep the blood pressure down.
Please, Admin, can we have the Foe button back.
Those who don't want it don't have to use it. For the rest of us it is very useful.

NT is correct – it won't.
However, surely we have to be selective.
For example, I would not choose to attend a BNP rally or eavesdrop on the Tory party conference or read the Daily Mail.
Yes, the ideas are still there but I am not subjected to them.
I choose not to give them the oxygen of attention and publicity.

The facility to block is perhaps a less than adult version of a child with his or her palms covering his or her ears while chanting "Nah na-na-nah-nah I can't hear you".

I personally would prefer that the function be/remain disabled in what is intended to be a forum which, by definiton is where adult discussion and debate takes place. We cannot undertake this if a number of members play "Nah na-na-nah-nah I can't hear you".

Let's be open and have healthy and informed discussion brethren, taking note of, if not agreeing with, those we perveive to be lesser beings for holding different views. After all, we can all be persuaded.

I've learned much from participating in this forum. It wouldn't be the case if I'd played "Nah na-na-nah-nah I can't hear you".

The Friend/For facility simply brings up a line which reads: "This post was made by X who is currently on your ignore list. Display this post."
You can then choose to read it or not. So all those people who – I am told – I offend can choose whether to read my ramblings or ignore them.
It's rather like the R18 certificate on a DVD – you know what it's likely to contain and you then choose to watch or not.

The downside of disabling the facility means that those people previously marked as "Foe" cannot now be unmarked.

And, at the moment, those "Foe" who should be reinstated, given another chance, forgiven – whatever the right word is – cannot be. The are cast into the pit for eternity – unless Admin has a change of heart!
