Ordinary Time – Week 29
“The Word of God unceasingly calls to mind and extends the plan of salvation, which achieves its fullest expression in the liturgy. The liturgical celebration becomes therefore the continuing, complete, and effective presentation of God’s Word.” (Introduction to the Lectionary (1981) n.4)
On the Sundays of these weeks in October and November, we are reading Mark’s exposition of the mystery of the Son of Man (chapter 10) before proceeding to the final revelation in Jerusalem (chapters 12 and 13) in the closing weeks of the year. The Old Testament readings are chosen to inform the gospel readings. The second reading continues to be from the Letter to the Hebrews.
At weekday Masses, we turn from St Paul’s epistle to the Galatians to the letter to the church at Ephesus. The gospels readings continue to be from Luke – selected from chapters 11-18.
