SSG Autumn Assembly - 13/14 October 2017

I thought it might be nice to let folk know what we're going to be up to this weekend. For this year's assembly, we are gathering in London. On Friday, we meet at Westminster Abbey for Sung Eucharist for the Feast of the Translation of St Edward the Confessor at 5 pm, followed by dinner at a local restaurant.

On Saturday, we will assemble at St Aloysius, near Euston for Morning Prayer, followed by a workshop on Singing the Psalms, led by John Ainslie.

The James Crichton Memorial Lecture, “Friends and Followers of Christ: Anglicans and Catholics journeying together”, will be given by Rev'd Lucy Winkett who will be known to many for her regular contributions to BBC Radio 4's Thought for the Day. Lucy's lecture follows on beautifully from our Summer School, Pilgrims Together.

We will end the day with Mass. Oh, and we might squeeze the AGM of the Society in somewhere!

It was great - thoroughly enjoyed the Monteverdi at the Sung Eucharist (far too long a stand during the Taverner Western Wind Mass an Eucharistic prayer). We were able to sit together at the front of the transept. Visiting the shrine of St Edward the Confessor and a glass of wine with the Dean and chapter were an added bonus. An excellent meal at Browns and really enjoyed meeting Canon Pat. The assembly went well and John Ainslie gave an excellent talk on the psalms. Canon Lucy Winkett's Crichton lecture was amusing and inspiring - an excellent choice! In fact women clergy were prominent on both days! Well done to the organisers.
