Using the New Lectionary

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Using the New Lectionary

Post by FrGareth »

Lo! New Lectionary Sunday is upon us. Yesterday I took my new set of 4 volumes and a Gospel Book into my small sacristy, having removed all the existing volumes to make room (except the weekday volume which will remain on the ambo until Saturday). I thought it would be a good idea to position all the ribbons for first use.

Volume IV, the special ocassion volume, comes with 5 ribbons. They will all be needed, given that psalms are no longer paired with First Readings, nor Gospel Acclamations with Gospels. But rather than set all 5 ribbons in the Funeral section, where they will be most often used, I decided to only place four, with the first being set in the next most used block, which would be Infant Baptisms.

Where do we find Infant Baptism? Somewhere in Christian Initiation, where a single index entry covers nearly 150 pages! It turns out the running headings do nothing to help you find what you actually need. After a few frustrating minutes flipping through I decided there was no alternative than write out my own index to the whole section. And since you, Gentle Reader, probably have more important things to do, I will share it with you, on a page where I will probably add other bits of index as I need them. Share and enjoy! INDEX
