The Diocese of Leeds is holding a music day, mainly for parish musicians, on Saturday 25 June 2016, 10am, to 3pm in the Wheeler Hall, Leeds Cathedral. The event is open to all.
Presenters include John Duggan, composer, Thomas Leech and Benjamin Saunders of the Diocese of Leeds Singing Programme, David, Pipe Diocese of Leeds Organists Training Programme and Philip Meaden, of the Royal College of Organists. The programme begins at 10 am with 10.00am Registration and Coffee, followed by Singing Workshops - including a new English Congregational Mass setting by John Duggan and a Gregorian Chant Mass for Sundays in Ordinary Time. Participants are invited to form a choir to sing Duggan’s Mass in the Cathedral at 12 noon (optional).
After lunch (not provided), between 1.30 - 3.00pm there will be a session on learning the organ - the Diocese of Leeds Organists Training Programme. This new scheme is a partnership between the Diocese of Leeds and the Royal College of Organists and is aimed at new learners and improving players. It will be introduced by RCO Chief Executive Philip Meaden and a practical workshop will follow with David Pipe, who has recently joined the Diocese of Leeds Music Team from York Minster.
Admission is free to all but places are limited and need to be booked in advance. To book please email Eleanor Cully with numbers at [email protected] as soon as possible.
