On the First Sunday of Advent, the new Lectionary comes into force in the dioceses of England and Wales and Scotland. The 2024 Lectionary uses The Abbey Psalms and Canticles (2020) translation of the psalms. This is a revision of the Grail Psalms (1963) by the monks of Conception Abbey, Missouri.
Composers have been busy producing new or revised settings of the responsorial psalms for Mass. Andrew Elliott has collected together some of the newly available editions. This page will be updated as more settings become available. If you know of, or have yourself produced psalm settings for the new translations, please let us know.
The Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales has allowed a three year grace period for introduction of the new psalms when sung. Until Advent 2027, settings of the “old” Grail translation may be used until new settings are available and learned by parishes.
