Vespers, Christ the King

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Vespers, Christ the King

Post by Mithras »

Can anyone help with this request from a friend?

" I need to locate the appropriate Magnificat antiphon for Vespers on the feast of Christ the King (Nov 22nd this year). The Liber Usualis lists Christ the King as the last Sunday in October, and has different material for the last Sunday after Pentecost. Do you know which would be best for the November date and (here it comes) where I might find it in English?"

Thanks

According to my "A Shorter Morning and Evening Prayer" The Magnificat antiphon for 1st Vespers is

The Lord God will give him the throne of David is ancestor; he will reign in the house of Jacob for ever and his kingdom will know no end. Alleluia

2nd Vespers is
All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me, says the Lord.

I have no idea where to get tunes for these.

You can always sing them to part (e.g. sections A & D) or all of the tone you're using to chant the psalms. A simple and user-friendly solution for parishes, which works in Latin too.
