Confessions

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Confessions

Post by VML »

I know the Ordo says the Sacraments are not celebrated on Good Friday or Holy Saturday, but I remember Confessions being heard on Good Friday after the 3pm Liturgy, and on Holy Saturday. Is it totally out of order now?

According to On Preparing and Celebrating the Paschal Feasts , its OK. It says of Good Friday:
All celebration of the sacraments on this day is strictly prohibited, except for the sacraments of penance and anointing of the sick.

and of Saturday, essentially the same

The celebration of marriages is forbidden, as is also the celebration of other sacraments, except those of penance and the anointing of the sick

Our diocesan ordo says of Saturday that the sacrament of penance can be celebrated "where necessary" which implies to me that we'd rather not encourage it on Holy Saturday.

I don't remember post 3pm confessions being the practice where-ever I've been. Surely its better to celebrate reconciliation, as part of the lenten journey to Easter, before the start of the unity of the Triduum?
