Hi All,

Has anyone come across (or written) an alternative setting for the new exultet text? I'm looking for something suitable for piano or guitar?

I wonder what the translator of the new version of the Exultet would make of the idea of a guitar version. I'm giggling just thinking about it.

Exsultet
Exult, let them exult (longer form)............................................RM p 382, RR
Exult, let them exult (simplified, + optional acclamations)........RR
Exsultet with Acclamations (Foster).......................................... RR
Exsultet (Jones).........................................................................RR

RM is the Roman Missal; RR is the revised edition of Resurrexit (Decani Music).
The second item on the list is Stephen Dean's simplification of the Missal chant.
The settings by Martin Foster and Peter Jones are to psalm tones (and Martin's includes acclamations for the people).

The first two settings, being chant, are best sung unaccompanied; the last two would work with piano, organ or guitar.

If you already have the first edition of Resurrexit, you can buy a Supplement from Decani with just the new stuff for £4.95

There's a simpler setting of the Exsultet (PDF and sound file, using a Gregory Murray psalm tone, with assembly refrains) on this web page:

but not for much longer, I suspect..... This setting has worked well for the past four years in both former and new translations (the latter with revised refrains that tie in with the new text) — just the thing for deacons who want to sing but can't manage the Missal tone.

It would be a shame to loose such a useful resource. Were there to be by chance anyone connected with that department reading this, might it be possible to rescue the material, and might the Society website be able to find it a home?
