SSG Composers' Forum

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

SSG Composers' Forum

Post by musicus »

Please see the three announcements about the relaunching SSG Composers' Forum in the Announcements section at the top of the Liturgy Matters index page.

I have posted them in Liturgy Matters and not elsewhere because we want to reach as many people as possible. It may be that, in due course, the Composers' Forum will have a erm... forum of its own. (For the avoidance of doubt and confusion: the Composers' Forum is a real-life group of people who actually gather to meet each other, not an online forum like the one you are currently reading.)

As you will read above, the first meeting of the Forum is on 1 December. Well before that, we will publish the programme for 2013.

(BTW, I am sorry that the announcements appear to have been posted in reverse order - as I have often remarked, the software that drives this board has a mind of its own. However, the clue is in the numbers: read the post labelled [1] first, followed by the post labelled [2], then... Oh, you know. )

I have slightly updated the announcements in the light of some helpful suggestions, so please re-read them when you have a moment.

Might we see some of this music on the composers section on here?
It's not been updated for a while.

That is certainly something to be considered, Nick. The former Composers' Group fed into several significant publications over the years, including - to name only two - Music for the Mass I & II and Psalm Songs 1, 2 & 3. I know the hope is that the Composers' Forum will continue this tradition in due course - though probably online rather than in print.

IMHO, I think we might consider restructuring the existing downloads on here: it is now much easier simply to add attachments to ordinary posts,

Well that's a fat lot of good for people, such as myself, who cannot attend the meetings.
Any opinions expressed are my own, not those of the Archdiocese of Birmingham Liturgy Commission, Church Music Committee.

I'm with Peter on that - did no-one notice that it's the weekend of the first Sunday of Advent? I expect my Saturday to be passed in the annual last minute panic.

Grumpy (wot! - again?)

Does the First Sunday of Advent cause you more panic than other Sundays?
