The new 'corrected' missal

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

The new 'corrected' missal

Is the below, the equivalent of the above?

No. The New Missal might be equated to the forthcoming fresco when it has been repaired and so transformed from a cartoon-esque botched job (the 1970s effort) into something close to the beautiful original.

Gwyn,

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The second, corrected, restored & literal image is, for many, beautiful, ineffable, prevenient and consubstantial.

The many (above) love this sort of thing, along with altar rails, banning communion wine, scripture & women on the altar.

However, in my view, the former image, although dated, botched, and in the stlye of Bernadette Farrell, is more useful for the People of God. (The all, not the many).

John felt;
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

There's a lot in that John. We live in exciting times.

Oh, I think there are plenty of exciting things going on - but does this knockabout stuff add to the debate? I am tempted to suggest an additional sub-forum for ranting in (as at ship-of-fools.com) :roll:

On the other hand, I am glad that John has mentioned the Spanish painting story. I'm sure there must be other examples of well-intentioned but disastrous 'restorations'.

Merely merrie banter Musicus.
Speaking of which, don't forget The Yeomen of The Guard is broadcast this eve at 8pm on BBC2. It was recorded a week or so back, it was beautifully produced.
