I watched the broadcast of the openinig ceremonies and Mass via EWTN yesterday. It was an interesting musical mixture.

Just noticed that Michael Joncas has a short critique of the event from three angles: the music used in the ceremony, liturgical art and environment, and the homily of the principal concelebrant Cardinal Marc Ouellet. It can be viewed and commented on at http://www.praytellblog.com/index.php/2 ... -congress/ . He lists the music used in the Eucharist - but does not deal with the music that was used in the lengthy gathering rite (this was not broadcast in its entirety) and notes the use of music by Irish composers and, interestingly music from Lourdes, presumably given the international nature of the event.

The music at the closing Mass today was fairly painful. It was resuscitated briefly when Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus was sung by the choir.
