Chrism Mass
Our Parish were recently told we will be hosting the Diocesan Chrism Mass later this year. It would seem sensible to augment our choir by adding other singers from nearby. Can anyone recommend any good music? We will be bound by the Diocesan standard setting of the Mass, but a nice motet would be a pleasant thought!

You might like to take a look at David Ogden's 'Hymn of Chrism' - a fine tune, with a singable refrain for everyone. You will find it at http://www.whitelightpublishing.co.uk and, if your browser has the free Scorch plug-in installed, you will be able to see and hear it too. Just check that the words say what you want to say!
(NerdNote™ regarding Scorch: Apple users running the Safari browser under OS 10.7 will need to restart Safari in 32-bit mode because Scorch is a 32-bit plug-in and won't work in a 64-bit browser.)

I'm not so sure about a motet but you might want to address the issue of using/creating a setting of O REDEMPTOR SUME CARMEN the hymn particular to the procession of oils. David Ogden has one and a certain Philip Jakob has another to a translation by Michael Bryant.
Re: Chrism Mass
And Martin Barry has a beautiful setting I heard him present at a composers' group a few years ago. We've used it in our parish.

There's a setting for the Procession of the Oils with text by Alan Griffiths, music by Paul Inwood, published by World Library Publications (sample pages at http://www.wlp.jspaluch.com/download/005779.pdf, available via Decani Music); and James Quinn has a metrical version of O Redemptor which goes well with the hymn-tune Stuttgart. If you have the resources, Christopher Walker's Out of darkness with the Chrism Mass verses (one for each oil) is pretty good, too (http://www.ocp.org/products/9232, available via Decani Music).
For a setting of the Consecration of the Chrism, with background music underpinning the Bishop's spoken text and interspersed invocations for the assembly, see http://www.ocp.org/products/30102944, available via Decani Music.
