Meatless Fridays

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Gwyn must have an exemption, for Wales is not mentioned!

I meant "in the headline". I'll get me coat........

Come to think of it........ I'll be exempt by 16th September. Would not wish to set a bad example though by not joining in. I like fish.

Can anyone say why the more experienced person is exempted from abstaining from meat nowadays when fish or eggs are often easier to chew and digest?

It's my canonical age JW.

Canon 1252 All persons who have completed their fourteenth year are bound by the law of abstinence; all adults are bound by the law of fast up to the beginning of their sixtieth year.

As far as I can see, under canon 1252 only the duty to fast ceases at 60, not the duty to abstain.

I think you're right there ........ but I can imagine some folk arguing that abstinence in itself is fasting. I'll get my fishing rod out before I carp on. (and fill the bath...... very muddy fish, you know..... have to let them swim around in a mud-less environment for a while before eating..... )

But what if I want to sing Hake Dies on the Friday of Easter Week to my own cod- Palestrina invention? (I hear musicus flexing his mussels and reaching for the fish knives to throw at me. Perhaps I had better clam up if I'm going to be moderated for being a ray of sunshine.Musicus sounds a bit iwrasseble today.)

presbyter, you're off-topic - and you started it (the topic, that is) :)

Don't you have any topical fish to bring to this?
