Areas of Difficulty

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Areas of Difficulty

The excellent Catholic Sensibility has a link to a document illustrating in detail the problems with the 2010 version of the Missal translation.

Might as well post the direct link

https://wikispooks.com/wiki/File:Areas_of_Difficulty.pdf

Note that this is ICEL to the SCDW - not the other way round.

Where does this leave a) publishers, b) composers and parish musicians and c) those who are charged with preparing parishes for the change?

The Tablet has had some worrying reports and letters about this!

The same site has now leaked some of the presentation text of the previous, previous final version as presented to the pope. Its to be hoped that the typo has been corrected in the Easter Vigil blessing of water chant, in which the priest has to reach a top A, whilst simultaneously chanting the text on a C.

But Bishop Serratelli says it's all OK: see http://www.praytellblog.com/index.php/2 ... e-worship/

So that's alright then.

If (which God forbid) everything is not alright, will the Bishops of England and Wales do what their German brothers have already done?

Such as demand some punctuation - so that you don't have to read a Collect five times before you grasp what it is trying to say/pray ?

Some people are now suggesting and hoping that, should the forthcoming English translation be found wanting, there will be a call to use Latin instead; perhaps not 100% right away, but with the ratio of Latin to English gradually increasing - possibly as exemplified by the recent Papal Masses in the UK.

No; I was referring to the German episcopate's rejection of Rome's new German text.

Our diocese is running something similar at the moment. Concentrating on structure and history of the Mass as a prelude to the introduction.
