New Psalm Book - full 3 year cycle

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

New Psalm Book - full 3 year cycle

Post by Psalm Project »

Hi All,
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and prosperous new year.
May I also take the opportunity to alert you to my new book which was formally launched in Cork City (IRL) immediately before Christmas.
It is the full three year cycle including major feasts and solemnities.
Some copies have already been sent to churches in the UK. Look at the CD-ROM offer for parish bulletin inserts! All copyright issues are cleared for reproduction in parish bulletins!
Details are on my website www.patrickkilleen.com
Some page samples are on the website.

My choir has also taken the bold step of moving from our inadequate gallery at the rear of our church to a new location near the sanctuary... It is a little like a gallery built on the floor.
The move is an astounding success (as is the new Phoenix organ - sorry Meerkat).
Have a look www.dennehyscrosschoir.com

Congratulations on completing your "project", Psalm Project. Having looked at the sample pages on your website, I would think that most parishes would welcome these new settings and find them well within their capabilities.

Psalm Project kindly let me sample his book in my parish during the summer and it was excellent stuff and went down very well. He has also provided a simple and a more elaborate version of each response, which I thought was very useful. I will be getting it for my parish!

Well done PP !

Are Decani / McCrimmon / St Paul's Bookshops going to have this is stock - or is your website the only means of ordering?

At the present time it is available directly from me.
It is the most efficient method and all orders are dealt with immediately.
A simple email or call is all that is required.
If any of the publishers you mention wish to stock it, I will be happy to discuss it with them should they wish to get in touch.

This looks really interesting PP, and I wish you every success with the sales.
Please could you tell me if you have only used the original lectionary words, or have used the inclusive paraphrase.
Thank you,
Veronica

Veronica,
I have been 100% faithful to the lectionary text.
In one or two instances, I offer an option - like 'Taste and see' which you may view on the website. The shorter response is the lectionary one.

By the way...
If you are not familiar with (or uncomfortable with) PayPal, let me know.
It is not necessary - I made it available only for convenience.

Perhaps a few glitches, though? E.g. in the sample of "The Lord's my shepherd", the second "your" has been missed out from "you are with your crook and your staff".

BTW, using an extended response, as in the "Taste and see" sample, is not deemed to be deviating from the Lectionary text when it's just a question of repeating the words "Taste and see" ─ many settings do this sort of thing ─ so you can relax about that, Patrick.

It looks ideal. Settngs composed by musicians who acually work at the root parish level are always the best. I've been to Masses where the response to the psalm has been soaringly wonderful, but so elaborate that the punter-in-the-pew would not be able to physically sing the response until at least verse three, and then only gingerly.

Good work P.P.

btw. Are you using The Grail that is now? Or The Grail that shall be in the missal to come? :)

SC... ever edit a book? It's like 'Find Waldo'
Yes, your observation is correct - however, it does not take from the meaning. So, I am 99.999999999999% faithful to the lectionary
I think you will not find very many glitches.

As for extended responses - Yes, I know that word repetition does not substantially alter matters - However, sticking to the original text poses considerable challenges to make it work.

Gwyn... The license I have relates to Grail current. As for Grail that shall be... I can only deal with the 'here and now'
This book is a small investment in getting congregations to sing the psalm. If, in time, a revision is required, it is simple to accommodate.
With this publication, if you buy the three book combination with CD-ROM, any revision will still contain the same melodies and psalm tones.
This book works... Try the two samples with your cantors or choir and congregation if you need convincing!

SC - tut tut... you left out a word... it should read 'You are there with your crook and your staff'

Waldo lives on!

You noticed! My little plan succeeded, then. (To make you feel better about it!) I don't know who Waldo is (unless you're referring to the Waldenses), but yes, I have edited books....

Patrick,
My hopes rose when you said you have been faithful to the lectionary only for doubts to creep in when you said 'Grail as is now.'
The lectionary, and the McCrimmon books from 1987 are the same, but the single three year book from McCrimmon and the c.1994 Grail Psalms use 'inclusive' language. I find such alterations as using the name of God repeatedly to avoid using 'he' or any masculine pronoun very clumsy to sing. 'Ancestors' instead of 'fathers'...'ones' instead of 'men...

Please tell me which you have used. :?
I really do hope it is the former. :)
