Have to say that I wasn't very impressed by either of these. The second one mostly oscillated back and forth between quiet and loud. No real development of the material in either of them.

His piano technique is a little strange to watch. And when he uses it on the organ, it becomes clear that he's not really an organist either.

I agree. I also thought the 'Watch and pray' improvisation was wildly inappropriate: not many disciples would have managed to sleep through his fortissimo passages. Some of the YouTube comments are way over the top, too. I wonder what they would have made of Wayne Marshall's Messiaen at the first night of the Proms - they would probably have died and gone to heaven. (Mind you, I thought he played it far too quickly.)

Wayne plays everything too fast - a shame, because he is an ambassador for organ music and making a bit of a mess due to excessive speed is not the best way to be one. It could be due to nerves, or due to the fact that he thinks that playing faster than anyone else puts him on top (it doesn't). Or perhaps he needs to take medication to slow himself down before performing, as apparently some other great artistes do.

What a contrast with Olivier Latry on Monday.... (If you wanted to hear the RAH organ fortissimo-issimo-issimo, he probably outplayed them all.)

In addition, those of us in Portsmouth Diocese also lose Sunday 33 to Edmund of Abingdon, giving us "white" Sundays for the whole of November, except the last one, which is the First Sunday of Advent and presumably not displaced by St Andrew, even in Scotland!
