Re: Something delicious
Apologies, Mr Bear.
I, for one, will stop spreading the Gospel of Mac and how God created it on the Seventh Day in his own image and likeness.
It will stop henceforth.

Re: Something delicious
Back on topic, we've used Martin's 'O Redeemer' chorus during our procession of holy oils on Maundy Thursday. He presented it at the first composers' group meeting I went to and, rather like Nick's topic title, I remember Liz Mottram referring to it as 'scrumptious!'
Re: Something delicious
There were a good many delicious items served up at Composers' Group. I'm so glad that Martin's work is being used. How many more CG works are being breathed into liturgical life? It would be nice to know.
My latest effort to compose something had a life, and an encore, but only at a concert. I've lost the habit because it's lost its purpose. My composition is limited to writing school reports, which is what I should be doing now.

This is something I've often thought as well: though it's good to get feedback at a CG meeting it would also be good to hear whether pieces are being used elsewhere and if so how well they work. I'll offer a couple of instances from my experience and hope others follow suit.
During Eastertime and other festive occasions we use a very jolly Gloria by Sheila Hales that I picked up at my first CG meeting. It seems to have caught on well: people now sing the verses as well as the refrain despite the fact that the latter goes higher than I would normally take a congregation!
Another piece we have used is Veronica Lowe's simple but very effective setting of Pat Lee's Communion Meditation, which lent itself well to adaptation to our limited forces and was much appreciated by the music group. Sadly, we don't use it now as we've lost our guitarist/cantor who helped to lead it and we find now that hymns at Communion don't work well any more.

I can sympathise (except that I don't do school reports). I tend to write things because there's a CG meeting coming up and to keep my hand in. If I can use it afterwards, that's a bonus. Try to get the habit back, Dot, if only to join us!
