More insidious than that, Contra - it reflects the very British presumption (and very Catholic one - so very very British-Catholic) that any conception which involves - er - not being a virgin is intrinsically evil and very definitely Maculate. Q
We were contemplating the fact that the Latin Mass requires males to do the serving etc. We have not yet mentioned that it is OK for a woman to serve if " she knows Latin" and does not move. So she can respond ( as on behalf of the congregation )- but not waltz around the altar doing moves.
The language of "manning up" - which is a needed in some places........ "Are you man enough"
