But aren't the items we're talking about Lamb of God plus tropes linking it back to day's Gospel or seasonal theme – sure that's not banned. In fact, I think it's encouraged somewhere but just can't think where. Can anyone advise?

So it was - point taken. Perhaps we should also remember that our Bishops approved the ICET text - does anyone sing that?

You mean: "Jesus, Lamb of God... Jesus, bearer of our sins..."? In which case, yes, frequently, several settings.
