Late arrivals at the Liturgists' Ball

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Is that standard Roman Office rules then or is Cranmer's variant allowed? Please inform all playing if you are using Septuagint or Hebrew numbering.

Never mind Cranmer's Variant - that whole 'Crescent' thing seems very suggestive of Mohammed's Complete Rewrite.

But it's nice to see 'One Song To The Tune Of Another' in progress on at least two other Threads.

The real challenge would be to get a version of "Samantha's been spending a lot of time in the archives recently..." past musicus...

Ah! The tricky quote-within-a-quote gambit - played here by contrabordon for the first time.

Sung to the tune of "Sven, I'm calling you", no doubt.

ok - first move then

Post by presbyter »

my first move - I claim it under the Wiseman Privilege (not played often tis true - but appropriate in starting a public game I think - don't you Samantha?)

Our Lady of Victories, Kensington - Psalm 99 (Septuagint)

(BTW - for those not familiar with this game - the object is to land on Morning Prayer Crescent - which is a delightful spot in Essex made holy by the Sisters of the Holy Sepulchre. We should be there on the afternoon of Monday 26th July - no cheating now - inverse diagonals avoiding Liverpool Street are suspect and may be moderated, I'm told.)

2nd move

Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St Simon Stock, Kensington

(cautious, I know - but I'm new to this version)

I have somehwere a double-sided cassette, purchased from a Moto Service Station - RAC membership 20% discount - which explains the secular variant of this game in great detail. The substitution of Westminster Cathedral for the secular equivalent Victoria will give you a good idea of how to play. Those who substitute 39 Eccleston Square for Victoria are unfortunately leaving by the wrong exit and will find they have nowhere else to go :(

ah - a sly move here - for obviousoly there are no psalms in Morning Prayer in this church and Musicus is opting for the devotional/ not liturgical alternative - he thinks he'll get there quicker

Perhaps the recent ICEL translation of the Order of Mass published in the Tablet was a variant on Cheddar Gorge?

And who is this coming down the stairs now?

It's Mr and Mrs En and their daughter Pat
...and from Sweden, looking rather solemn in black, are Mr and Mrs Trites and their son Lars.....
....and also from Sweden, where they have been attending a conference on giving First Aid in church, Mr and Mrs Toeplast and their son Lars...

Mr and Mrs Bennett-I-know-he's-the-Bishop-but-does-he-have-to-go-on-so-long? And their son Gordon.

(Disclaimer: the person or persons depicted in this (feeble attempt at a) joke are purely fictional, and any resemblance to persons living or dead (or translated) is unintentional.)

Strange co-incidence, mbc, because this afternoon the Vatican Information Service announced that a new Bishop of Mandaville (Jamaica) has been appointed; an American Jesuit. Guess what his name is? GORDON BENNETT SJ

Isn't that Mr and Mrs Hairy-Beads, and their daughter Rose?

And, praise the Lord, there's Mr and Mrs Artay. Oh, they've brought their son. He's a little noisy though. Truly Loud.

Not really any further on with that Morning Prayer Crescent - and you've not moved since Saturday. It's a little hard from over here, in total ignorance of London (is that in Alabama?)

Thank goodness that lovely Irishman Mr O'Meigh is here: without his rules, this Liturgists' Ball would be chaos. Let's face it, it is all due to Ron O'Meigh.
