No, not allowed. same-sex marriage is not legal in the UK so even if the Church wished to it couldn't happen.

Two friends of mine are having a civil partnership in a week or so and the rules are strict: they're not allowed any mention of God or any religious reference whatsoever. So they're trotting off to the town hall in jeans and T-shirts to sign the paper and having the religious ceremony a couple of weeks later – and we won't be singing Take Our Bread (which I throw in to bring us back on topic).

In which case I apolgise for not getting it. But it ain't too funny for the same-sex couples who, throughout the right-wing Blair administration, lived in hope that their human rights might be acknowledged. Not too funny for them.

I pray ernestly that a day doesn't dawn when celebrating the Holy Sacrifice is forbidden.

I really do think that such matters regarding moral philosophy and theology belong in a different forum and should not be raised here.

If anyone remembers, this thread was about observing the written rhythm of a particular piece of music. I've tried to steer us back on topic several times and we have consistently veered off again. Having answered Hare's question more than adequately (and even if we hadn't the moment has now passed), I'm going to lock this thread before we venture not only off topic, but out of "Liturgy Matters" altogether.
