But 72% off topic if one invokes the Mayhew alphabetical theorem in Hymns Old and New (without supplement)
To answer Hare's original question, I've never played the minim rest either. I think there might be a consensus here!

Has anyone ever "played" a minim rest (or any rest for that matter?

Is there any value in discussing how to perform something which should be binned?

Well, docmattc seems to be playing Just A Minim*. Outrageous to have edited my post though, don't you think? Sed quis custodiet ipsos custodes...

I didn't have a lot of choice; the question was in connection with a wedding in another parish.
(The PP there didn't like the choice of hymns either (Lord of the dance, Take our bread & All that I am. On the other hand - it appears to be the norm there - we had 6 candles on the Altar, Biretta, and Eastward-facing celebration of the Mass!

Oh - I forgot to say, Nick, that the bridegroom's family were all from Liverpool!

That figures. Last year I conducted a survey of music in parishes up here – the results were frightening to say the least.Hare wrote:....the bridegroom's family were all from Liverpool!

Does that mean the wedding was in the extraordinary form too? Rome is particularly interested to know of such celebrations, though I've never heard of any in these southern parts.
(Sorry this is somewhat OT, Mr Bear and Doc)

You obviously guessed, correctly, whose family took the lead in the organization!

The Mass was Novus Ordo in English, but facing east. In my ignorance I am not aware of an Extraordinary Form of marriage (apart from same-sex unions perhaps? )
