Well I'm going to anyway because Martin Barry's Come to Me is one of the most delicious things I've heard in ages. And very useful too because it can be performed with a simple guitar accompaniment or with four-part choir. It's on Martin's Sibelius page: http://www.sibeliusmusic.com/index.php? ... &uid=10783

We should hear more of Martin's music: The people of Salford are very lucky to have him.

I had loads of simple responsorial psalms on mine, but in an attempt to legitimise myself I appeoached the owners of The Grail copyright to seek permission to use the text. They said that if they were given away free then permission is withheld.

It appears - from the contents of another thread - that the situation will improve with the new Grail Translation.

Yes, that is a problem: Few of mine are Grail for that very reason but are a emulsification of various translations.

By the way - I'm just back to the 'emerald isle' from Cambridge - oh my goodness... King's college evensong - lump in the throat stuff!
HOWEVER... someone should really address the issue of the various readings being inaudible! I've noticed this on previous visits. Indeed, it is something I notice in many churches. Some sound systems are dire (or non-existent).
I would have thought Kings would be aware of this? Hmmm

Martin's 'Come to me' is great. I used it last year- I think for All saints. The choir loved singing it and I really should use it more often. Its particularly apt in our church as the mosaic on the east wall has this text.

I'm using his setting of O Redemptor Sume Carmen on Monday for Confirmation, just the antiphon "O redeemer hear our song as our voices rise to you. Lord anoint us make us strong, send us to share your good news" interspersed with the verses of Veni Creator.

A response to my initial email has not come within the 21 days (working) they said it would.
There is no phone number available - only email enquiries are possible (according to the website I accessed).
As for being sued... Well, I've documentation to prove I sent the request... nothing has been forthcoming. I am willing to pay any fees required. That is not the issue. I need to move this on and get printing.
If my print deadline does not get a response soon, I will not be left with an option other than to proceed with an acknowledgement in the book to redress any issues subsequently. Delays and procrastination are not in my vocabulary. At no point have I ignored my responsibility concerning copyright.
I am trying to visualise the situation though... Headline in press... "Liturgical composer sued for using the texts of the Sunday psalms" God forbid I would choose to do the same to all the churches up and down this country who are xeroxing my copyrighted music day in day out!
Could be an interesting test case! Here goes...

I am sure this is true, and I'd love to join the chorus of applause, but as long as it languishes in the dreaded Sibelius those of us (the pros) who use Finale cannot see it. Even Scorch does not work properly on PCs, only on Macs, alas. Any chance of posting it on the Salford site as a PDF file that anyone can look at?

They ususally come back to you within 21 days for use of an extract but you're using far more than that so I really would expect it take longer. When did you first contact them? Only asking because you said in an earlier post that you'd been working on this for some time.

Doesn't matter. You still can't take someone's material without permission. What would happen if, for example, their reply was "No" and you had gone ahead and published? They could, at least, stop you selling and distributing so it would be an expensive move.

That would not be a strong argument in court. Yes, you've asked for permission but it has not, yet, been granted.

There's an interesting case currently going through legal process: a media law lecturer had written a book about theft of intellectual property, with particular reference to the Internet. He's since found huge chunks of the very same work reproduced on, yes, the Internet.

That's odd- it works fine on my PC at home but fails miserably on my mac at work (I will tolerate both of these platforms, as long as we understand that they are both inferior to RISCOS)
