Mothering Sunday

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

[, isn't it? He who sits in the heavens (surely) laughs. I suppose we can take some small comfort that this is not the Mass that the Welsh martyrs shed their blood for, but rather a Bugnini Masonic cut-down.[/quote]

I do not see what you mean by a 'cut-down' Mass, when the NT readings have increased from 17% ('old Mass') to 71% ('new Mass').

Did the martyrs shed their blood that we might have less of the Word of God at Mass?

I quite like the HF's idea that we should move on from simple partisan opposition of the two forms, to consider how the practise and development of each can benefit the other. Hardly any time has passed since the Council as the Church measures these things, and we've barely begun to work out its implications within the context of the Church's wider Tradition.

..or Laetare Sunday and the missing mention of it in a Welsh Saturday evening Mass. Maybe we are being a bit complicated here. Could it not just be that the celebrant and congregation were desperate to get back to the rugby?

Whoops, sorry Musicus - I was just trying to inject an eirenic thought into a thread that looked to be overheating!
