Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

M&L 34(1)

Post by docmattc »

This tangerine tome arrived on the doormat in holy week and I've only just had chance to start reading it. Brian Doolan's article on architecture finally puts into print what a 'listed' status actually means. Our church is listed and there are some folk who would have us beleive that this means fossillise. The mantra "you can't do that its listed" flows from the lips of some parishioners every week. There are times when I expect to be barred from entering the building on the grounds that I wasn't around when it was listed.

Ann Blackett Moynihan's page on readers is a truism that has been voiced on the forum before and reflects the state of play I suspect in many parishes. How do we persuade readers that what they are 'handling' is as sacred as that which Extraordinary Ministers of Communion handle?
She asks the question at the end "How should we be forming psalmists?" I have a book by Michael Goonan called "Praying the Sunday Psalms: Reflections on the Responsorial Psalm Years A-B-C" which really looks at all the readings from the viewpoint of the psalm. I used to give the relevant page to the psalmist however for the last few months I've misplaced the book. No-one has commented that they're no longer getting the commentry. This, I suspect, should worry me.

I have passed the article on chldren's liturgy on to several of our children's liturgy leaders which will hopefully give them food for thought.

What say you about it?

At this year's Summer School, workshops include Scripture: from Reading to Proclamation (led by Martin Jakubas) and Psalms and the Psalmist (Stephen Dean). Please visit the Summer School webpages here for more information.

Yes it should worry you! I have "praying the Sunday psalms" in 3 volumes. It is by Richard Atherton Redemptoris press 2001 and St Paul's used to stock it. The choir gave it to me as a present years ago and I read the commentary each Sunday and feast day with my breakfast. It is excellent!
