The Oxford Book of Flexible Anthems

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

The Oxford Book of Flexible Anthems

Post by PaulW »

The Oxford Book of Flexible Anthems, which I have reviewed for the next issue of Music and Liturgy (due to hit your doormats on about 24 January), is a collection of anthems which have been arranged so that they can be performed in a flexible manner - it is aimed at choirs where the number of people who turn up varies, or the organist is really a piano player etc. It is a comprehensive collection of 65 anthems and claims to have something for every Sunday and most feastdays, albeit for the Anglican calendar.

OUP are hosting a launch event at St Sepulchre-without-Newgate (opposite the Old Bailey), led by Alan Bullard (editor) and John Rutter. From 2pm on 19 January (next Saturday), ending with Evensong at 5.15. 've been sent two tickets for the M&L editors, but unfortunately, none of us is able to make the event. If you want a free ticket, please PM me and I'll stick them (or one!) in the post. First come, first served. You don't even have to write it up for M&L!

Highly recommended by satisfied user. The organ copy is spiral bound so it goes flat on the music desk. We loved Bob Chilcott's Psalm 23 and i am still singing "Christians shout with joy and gladness" by Bach which we sang last Sunday. the arrangement of Panis angelicus is much better than some I have used. The CD is great and helps learning! Next month we are doing the Ascension carol unaccompanied. I've just learnt we are without a soprano and our sole bass on one Sunday but we might still eb able to do the version of Ubi caritas!
