Songs of Praise (BBC1) "Celebrating the Organ"

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Songs of Praise (BBC1) "Celebrating the Organ"

Post by gwyn »

Dunnow if anyone saw this last Sunday evening. The programme was nicely presented by Huw Edwards (of newsreading fame) and looked at aspects of playing, tuning and maintaining organs. There was a quick butchers into the bowels of an instrument or two as well.

A few nice hymns including "Angel Voices Ever Singing..." with some familiar trumpet tunes woven in.

Flicked between SOP and the snooker, but the video watched the former properly for me! Did I see Mr Edwards actually playing?

Yes. He learned to play in a South Wales chapel or two as a lad.

The programme will be available via the BBC's iPlayer facility for a few more days.

(Humph! Ironic that the Beeb should use a term like 'iPlayer' when their technology only properly supports Windows. Don't get me started...)

I watched it via Linux and Firefox. Unfortunately I have no idea what plug ins my children have installed, but it worked fine.

Just to clarify: you can watch iPlayer using any browser and operating system, but currently you need Windows to download from it for viewing later.

And now, back to the topic...

I was delighted to see a decent SofP and celebrating the king of instruments. I was a tad unhappy about the marriage between the Trumpet Voluntary and one of my favourite hymns but I suppose it just about came off. So often I have to fast forward my recordings of SofP when we get a secular item or a pop one!

I've been meaning to write to the producer to voice my appreciation.
