Solemn Pontifical Requiem Mass - Westminster Cathedral

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Solemn Pontifical Requiem Mass - Westminster Cathedral

Post by gwyn »

Saturday afternoon 17th November. The Celebrant and homilist was Auxiliary Bishop John Arnold.

My people tell me that Bishop Arnold had not celebrated this rite previously. He did remarkably well.

According to my Mass booklet the setting used by the choir was Missa pro defunctis from Officium Defunctorum (1605) Tomas Luis de Victoria.

Mass was very well attended, the Latin Mass Soc. laid a wreath at the grave of Cardinal Heenan beforehand.

I lurked about afterwards since the choir were rehearsing. That was an added treat.

In a similar vein, Vespers from Westminster Cathedral is being broadcast next Sunday at 16:00 on Radio3. Don't miss it, they always do a good job - a real treat.
