Nativity of Our Lord

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Nativity of Our Lord

Post by gwyn »

Will this be on the 25th December this year? Or, in keeping with other feasts of Our Lord, will it move to the nearest sunday (23 Dec)?

Depends whether you are following the calendar for the ordinary or extraordinary rite!

Seriously, this is the one feast of Our Lord which isn't moved. The secular world also celebrates and so there isn't the pressure of having to 'fit Mass in' around work. Almost all of us are on holiday anyway- as used to be the case for the other holy days.

There is of course the pressure of fitting it in around visiting great aunt Nellie, having to have a glass of sherry with uncle Bert etc, but that's a different story. As we have discussed (lamented?) in other threads, the vigil Mass of Christmas seems to be a very popular way of getting the religious bit of Christmas out of the way as soon as possible.

Anyone seen Christmas cards on sale yet? I went up to our local Carmelites to get a baptism card a couple of weeks ago to discover that they had all their Christmas stock on sale!

I must stop posting so often- I'm embarrased to discover I'm in the top 10 posters

Are you the Grinch that's stollen Christmas?

I'm hoping to do (numbers permitting) Phillipp Nicolai "How brightly shines the morning star" this Christmas. I have a very good flautist to play the Bach cantata with it. I'll start teaching it as soon as the copies arrive from GIA.

OT (off-topic):

Rolling On The Floor Laughing

(The T is optional)

There are, of course, variations on this - most of which are not polite or acceptable here.
