Before Reginald very kindly supplied the English version of
Summorum Pontificum, I had a look for web site doing on-line translation from Latin to English. I was prepared to be impressed! These things can be pretty good in dealing with other languages. But the only site I could find was
this one and I have to say the
version it came up with of Pope Benedict's words didn't look much like anything he would say, unless (heaven forbid) he had suffered a really nasty head injury.
The bit I liked best, which seems good enough to share here, was the very end - in Latin:
Datum Romae, apud Sanctum Petrum, die septima mensis Iulii, anno Domini MMVII, Pontificatus Nostri tertio.
and in translation (I won't say "into English"):
To give In Rome, according to Holy Rocky, day seven month Iulii, yearly produce Demesne MMVII, Pontificatus Our third.
I love it! I think I'll call him that from now on.
