Summer School 2007
Have you booked your place at this year's Summer School yet?
Preparations are coming along well, and the programme is looking both exciting and challenging - far too good to miss!
So now seems like a good time to let you know that the limited number of places at Sneaton are filling up - and remind you that the deadline to qualify for the 'early-booking' rate is fast approaching.
You need to book by next Monday, in order to qualify for the reduced rate - so there's not much time to spare!
You can read more about all that we have in store for this year on the summer school webpage where you can also book online or download a copy of the booking form.
If you're not planning to come along, why not take a look anyway - you may well change your mind and decide you don't want to miss out!
Hoping we'll see you at Sneaton.

I certainly have! Looking forward to a week away in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside/seaside in good company and with excellent workshops.
Its a great way to recharge your liturgical batteries and pick up lots of new ideas amid people from the whole spectrum of liturgical view points
I'm on the Summer School Planning Team, so I'll be there.
Julie-Ann is right: there are lots of good things - practical advice and spiritual nourishment. I'm especially looking forward to Fr. Peter Allen's workshop. Fr. Peter is the Prior at the Community of the Resurrection in Mirfield. I first met him at a Chant Day organised by the Academy of Saint Cecilia in Southwark last year. I was so impressed by his quiet, yet spellbinding approach to exploring plainchant that I suggested we invite him to summer school. He is going to look at chant in English and says of his workshop "I hope it will help those who have no Latin to discover something of the unique treasure store that is the Western chant, and enable us all to appreciate in a new way the power of the chant as a vehicle of the spiritual life."
As well as Fr. Peter, there is an impressive line-up of leaders, many of them new to summer school. Details for Paula Bradley and Fr. Timothy Menezes have yet to be posted on the website (we're waiting for photos!) but Paula is the Adult Education Adviser for Nottingham Diocese. She deals with all aspects of formation and has a particular interest in RCIA. Fr. Timothy is a Parish Priest in the Midlands. He also teaches at Oscott College, and at the Maryvale Institute and is currently a Trustee of the Society of Saint Gregory. You can read about our other leaders on the summer school webpage.
I just want to mention our youth initiative. We are actively encouraging young people to come to summer school by ensuring that there are some sessions, just for them. This year, Andy Raine will lead our young people for two sessions but they will also have the opportunity to join in with workshops of their choosing as well as all the other summer school events. This year, six or seven young people have booked already which is very encouraging. If there are teenagers who are actively involved in your parish, and who you feel might enjoy summer school, please PM me and I can give you more details.
Finally, I'd like to offer a word of encouragement to anyone who is wavering. Summer School is a wonderful experience! It's an opportunity to learn, to exchange ideas with like-minded people, to support others and just to take some time out (albeit quite busy time out!) and allow yourself to be ministered to for a change. Do give it some thought and don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to know more before committing.

Oops!
Thanks, Doc.
I went to school with a Paula Bradley, though I'm not sure that explains the confusion as I left school - and lost contact with that particular Paula - more years ago than I care to remember.
It is, of course, Paula Bailey, and her details, together with Fr. Timothy's, now appear on the summer school web page.

I'm booked and looking forward to returning to Sneaton and to a great week. Check out that photo - I have a similar one from our last visit.

I think I would like to come to the Summer School - probably in 2008 - I'll have to start saving straight after Christmas. Yes, I have decided to become a member of the SSG - you have wonderful things happening.
This year I am going to Walsingham for a week - looking forward to that too.

yes, you'll have a whale of a time!
Or, if I came - a wail of a time! Such are my singing skills!

But it's not all about singing! Check out the information on the Summer School webpage about the keynote talks, workshops and seminars. There's lots there for people who are not especially musical!

Thanks to Martin and Caroline, and all involved in making this year's summer school another great success. Much hard work was clearly put into making it such a successful week. I've never experienced musical styles as diverse as the pieces we sang throughout the week. Ancient plainsong one minute and very modern stuff the next.
I now feel refreshed, and anointed to carry on the music ministry for another year.
