Can anyone help, please? My Parish have arranged to hold the sacrament of reconciliation for our First Holy Communion children, in the Relic Chapel at Aylesford Priory, and have asked me to play. The timescale mans that I cannot get there in advance to try the instrument, as I have to play for a St Patrick's day mass "at home" immediately beforehand, which the children and their families are attending, and we are all going off to Aylesford straight after.
The only information I have been able to get is "Someone will wheel it out for you. You can either have it on set organ settings or play your own combination with manuals." !!

Nice of you to take the trouble to ask - thank you.
It went very well; the instrument is a Viscount 1-man, no pedals job (can't remember model no) with a very nice sound. I have a Viscount 2-manual at church that is now about 15 years old, and was good for its time, but Viscount have obviously moved on since then in terms of sound quality.
The service was very simple; songs were "God's greatest gift" (Bernadette Farrell) "Thank you for giving me the morning", Lenten Gospel acclamation from "Music for Children's Litorgy of The Word" (Chris Walker) and "God forgave my sin".

I think it a disgrace that the organ at a major pilgrimage centre for the diocese is so inadequate. I played it for a Unity Commission Mass and it basically had one sound and one volume only.

When was that? The one I played was actually quite good and varied...
I agree however, that even so, one would expect something bigger and better.

asb that was a few years ago but I was in the congregation for a big Catenian mass there 2 Sundays back and the organ was completely inadequate and everything got slower and slower. The clapping Gloria without claps and getting slower - not fun, Credo III drawn out - no thanks. The problem was not the organist it was the celebrant (who gave an excellent homily) singing into the mike which was completely unnecessary!

I reckon the idea was to appeal to family members although there were not many kids present! It was probably also "everyone knows that! just as Celtic liturgy was used and the hymns were predictable!
