I've been thinking about the replacement of human conductors with robots ever since my encounter with Asimo (robot child of the Honda corporation) last week.
Could they deal with changing tempo and rubato? (link to video of robot conductor above failed, so I don't know) Would they set predictable tempi? Would they notice the instrumentalist who hadn't yet found his/her music? Would they check whether Fr had finished his liturgical action?
I can think of one point in favour of the robot in the above list, but only one.
mcb: don't feel your position is threatened - Asimo only stands about 1.2m tall so he'd need a plinth, just like you!

What I find now is that I need a taller music stand! Standing on my, er, rostrum, I find the wooden lectern on which I keep my music has become over the years just that little bit too far away. My varifocals just aren't up to the job. Eheu fugaces!
