Where have they gone?

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Where have they gone?

Post by johnmac »

Hi all,

Our PP has agreed to a large investment programme to 'enhance' the music in our Parish. This has involved beginning to buy 50 copies of each of the collections we use (which is quite a few), starting with the music we use the most often. I was saddened to hear that all the st Thomas more early collections have now gone out of print and OCP aren't printing anymore! Does anyone know of anyone who has secondhand copies hanging around which we could buy off them? (perhaps not 50 but a handful we could buy from a couple of people!!).

On another point I'm thinking of purchasing copies of Music for the Mass for our entire Music Ministry (60+) but it's awfully expensive but, on the other hand, vast and extensive which is really what I want. I heard the publishers don't sell to many of them now - do any of your choirs still use it regularly or would you recommend something similar?

Dear John,

I think we still have about 40 copies of "Music for the Mass" which we would be happy to let you have. Its probably best if you contact me via email ben@directorofmusic.org

Alternatively, a lot of the better Thomas More Group material is in the hymn book Laudate. If you don't already use that, it might be an option for you - with the additional advantage of making the items available to the people. The hymn book doesn't contain choir parts, of course - but, then, neither do the 'collections' (you need the individual octavos for those).

Would individual octavos meet the need? Particularly for the early collections parts were only found in the octavos.

Or it may be worth looking at OCP's Choral Praise Comprehensive which may contain many of the pieces you are looking for.
