Format for Service of Nine lessons and Carol

Just wondering. Do you think that the sequence should be:

* Scripture reading
* Hymn/Carol reflecting the reading

<or>

* Hymn of Carol setting tone for reading
* Scripture reading

I'm interested to learn your thoughts and keen to be advised on this.

It's a case of either/or. It might be that the music moves the narrative along. eg reading about shepherds/angels leading straight into "Angels we have heard" or reading about various bods visiting the stable followed by "Thou must leave thy lowly dwelling" which tells us the next bit of the story. Music can also reflect what we have just heard.

When are you doing this, Gwyn?

Yes, tha makes sense. I'll go with that format, giving way to popularity here and there.

We're having our Nine Lesson & Carols on Dec 20. There's everything to be gained by following a line from the prophecies right through to their fulfilment in the Nativity.
