O Holy Night...... (solo)
Why has this become traditional? Heard it 3 years in a row now.
Boy chorister - and yes, we clapped. It was a release from the tension of- will he, won't he, reach those high notes?
Anyway, what could be sung instead?

I'm afraid it's the American influence. And they are so sentimental about it!oopsorganist wrote: Mon Dec 25, 2017 10:14 am O Holy Night...... (solo)

As to what could be sung instead, there is any amount of English carols.....

We've used it a few times over the years – as a warm up for the assembly, about 10 mins before kick-off, with soft brass ensemble chords underneath (ra-ta-ta taaa, ra-ta-ta taaa). Not one of my faves but it works well round here and is often requested. When you have a church full of once-a-year folk, it really does get them singing!

Well, that is better. It gets it out of the system.
To have it blasted at you as if it has something profound to say is less delightful.
I would vote for Peace Child (Farrell).

What a ghastly recording! Much too fast, breaths in all the wrong places.... The one on the OCP website is rather better: https://ocp.org/en-us/search?q=Peace+Ch ... collectionoopsorganist wrote: Mon Dec 25, 2017 11:33 pm https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j ... lBlXwSDdWl
