Apart from a very few exceptions, the Entrance Chants of the Mass are drawn from the Bible, usually from the Book of Psalms. The great majority of these Introits or Entrance chants are from the Old Testament, because most of them were set in place in the Liturgy before the New Testament even existed. This means we are praying prayers and singing melodies that the early Christian Martyrs would have sung and some of these chants were sung in the temple during and before the time of Jesus.

It is significant that Mass opens with God’s word addressed to us. Already in the Entrance Chant it is God who comes out to meet us.

I was not involved this morning. It saddens me that short cuts are happening, PP has stopped singing Dialogue and Doxology
We have kept sung psalms going since the 80s. Also, I think if a psalmist is not going to sing the verses, then they belong to the reader.
If I say anything, I am told I am the only person who would notice.

There is no good reason not to sing the Eucharistic Acclamations
– and plenty of good reasons why they should be sung by all.

For all anyone might argue with some of the choices - this is a parish that sings, and our biggest goal is to make sure it stays that way. So the opening hymn is chosen from a very small pool which are guaranteed to engage people.

More Irish than usual this week, due to who was available. It's been a bit sparse the last couple of months.
