Renewal of Baptismal promises on Easter Day
After today's homily, and in place of the Creed, we had the renewal of baptismal vows and sprinkling while singing Water of Life. It's something I thought many people did on Easter Sunday but recent discussions lead me to think this might not be the case. How common is this?

I can only speak for sunny Abergavenny-on-Sea, but we've always renewed baptismal vows and had sprinkling.

Although it's only an option in the rite to do the renewal of baptismal promises and sprinkling instead of the creed on Easter Sunday morning, I think most people do this.
Water of Life always seems to be a bit downbeat on such an occasion. Taizé Surrexit Christus or Inwood We shall draw water joyfully seem better.

Yes, agree about the musical choice, SC. Slightly different musical line-up this year. We've used the Taizé in the past and, several years, Schutte's River of Glory with the "Fountain of mercy..." verse.

We prefer With Joy You Shall Draw Water (Bob Hurd) since it contains the verse refering to
I saw water flowing from the side of God's own Temple,
from the wounded heart of Jesus who died for us.
We like Water of Life too, using that on other occasions.
All delicious stuff!

We always have sprinkling on Easter Sunday. At the Vigil we sang 'I saw water flowing' from Psallite Mass. We used verses 1,2 and 5. Verse 1 is a translation of the
Vidi Aquam. No choir on Easter Sunday morning so returned to 'Water of Life'. No Baptisms or Confirmations this year.

As far back as I can possibly remember we have always had the renewal of Baptismal Promises. The Renewal of Promises and Sprinkling happens every year at the Cathedral too
Re: Renewal of Baptismal promises on Easter Day
We did it this year for the first time in a while ("As earth that is dry" - although, in the case of sprinkling, the water comes to us and not us to the water!).

At the Clifton Cathedral Vigil we did a simple sung response to the three 'do you believe' questions, then sang a piece of Cherubini ("Come to the waters") during the sprinkling.
At the Family Mass the same simple response, but with a "River of God" sing-along song during the sprinkling (verses include a shortened Vidi Aquam translation).

Hello. Newbee here.
I was at Ampleforth for the Triduum where, during the sprinkling after the renewal of Baptismal promises, we sang "I bind unto myself today the strong name of the Trinity". It was a rousing affirmation of the promises we had just renewed.

Its traditional in our neck of the woods too, to Water of Life.
Drenching the assembly is one of our PPs favourite liturgical actions, always performed with a wide grin as certain targets get hit.
