The Bishops’ Conference has decided that from Pentecost Sunday, 8 June 2014 only settings of the Ordinary of the Mass using the new translation are permitted to be sung at Mass. Settings using the previous translation or paraphrased texts may no longer be used in our parishes, schools and communities.

makes no mention whatsoever of troped settings (e.g. Lamb of God) which have been permitted for use in England and Wales since 1971 and do not come under either the previous translation or paraphrased texts (which means things like the Israeli Mass). This seems to be an oversight. In the absence of any further clarification, I assume that troped settings can continue in use (though the Panel has steadfastly refused to approve them in new settings).

Until recently the US Bishops were happy to approve troped settings of the Lamb of God, and a number of published settings include these. Rome then requested the US Bishops to rescind this permission. This resulted in a "grandfather" ruling by the US's BCDW by which no new settings may be published in the USA using tropes but already-published new (and old) troped settings of the Lamb of God can continue to be used (but may not be reprinted). As far as I am aware, no similar request to discontinue tropes has been received by the England and Wales Bishops' Conference, nor by any other Conference.

And there are a few parishes that have not changed their music settings, and say they will not change. Others have stopped singing altogether, which is one of the regrettable aspects of the revised translation of the Roman Missal.

This is such a pity, on so many levels. When the majority of parishes have switched over to the new Missal, it is sad to see that some refuse to do so. There are individuals I know that have refused to attend church since the new translations came into effect - surely these are missing out, and that the Christian community is not quite complete with these members absent too? But whole parishes? This obviously stems from leadership in the parish...

And to have parishes that stop singing altogether because of an unwillingness to investigate and embrace new mass settings? There are so many out there that work very well...

Dan Schutte's Lamb of God from the Mass of Christ the Saviour, new Laudate 1019, seems to be a troped setting. Interesting that the first verse is given as "O, Lamb of God" in the music edition and "Lamb of God" in the congregation edition. I wonder which version was approved?

Adding "O" is apparently OK. It's other things which aren't. The same Mass setting has a notorious Gloria refrain which received USA approval despite the rather strange repetition (many complaints received, e.g. http://www.chantcafe.com/2011/09/question-how-did-this-obtain-icelusccb.html but BCDW's response was that the text is intact, all he has done is repeat part of it.
