Responsorial Psalm St Stephens Day

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Responsorial Psalm St Stephens Day

Post by JW »

Is anyone aware of a musical setting for the St Stephen's Day Responsorial Psalm? The Mass is the annual St Stephen's Guild Mass in our parish. If there isn't one I could get my composing hat on but I don't really want the hassle of getting copyright permission from the Grail, especially as I won't be at the Mass. I suppose I could do my own translation from the Vulgate (more work!) or use the Good Friday psalm - or perhaps the Christmas Common psalm? Oh dear!

There's a rather lovely setting by Chris Walker published by Clifton Music, back in the days when it was all hand-written. Simple melody with nicely scrunchy chords. Have a copy of somewhere. Not sure if it has since been published elsewhere.

I think it would be a pity to change the response (or the Psalm) as it follows directly from Stephen's last breath (first reading). The Good Friday version is OK. Just use the appropriate psalm verses of the day.

I am now waiting for Gwynn to suggest using the Compline Responsory Chant (in latin) as the Response. 8)
