For those of you who link directly to the forum, without looking at the home page, I thought I'd bring the 2012 Summer School to your attention.
We return to Sneaton Castle, Whitby this year on slightly earlier dates (23 to 27 July) to avoid clashing with the Olympic Games.
Our new Chairman, Caroline Dollard, is our Summer School Director and the Director of Music is Martin Barry (St John's Cathedral, Salford). We’re very pleased to welcome Martin Baker (Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral) for the first time. Martin will lead a workshop on chant. Other leaders include Fr Allen Morris, Prof. Bill Tamblyn, Catherine Christmas, Kit Dollard and Martin Foster. There are workshops for organists, music directors, composers, readers, catechists, singers, and for anyone involved in the life and work of their parish. This year, participants will be able to choose three workshops to attend throughout the week.
Sneaton Castle is a beautiful venue, set high above the picturesque town of Whitby. If you don’t have to rush off at the end of the week, Sneaton offers bed and breakfast accommodation and you could spend time exploring the Abbey ruins, or sampling the fish and chips at the Magpie Café, which are reputed to be the best in the country!

Re: Summer School 2012
I am particularly interested to know how Martin Baker's participation went as I was encouraging him to join the society and delighted that he did so! It would be good for him to meet you all.

Re: Summer School 2012
Martin Baker's workshop was exemplary: well prepared and delivered with a polished and yet unpresumptive attitude. Whilst I may not agree with everything he says I do admire his skills.
