Dom Romuald Simpson RIP

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Dom Romuald Simpson RIP

Post by Southern Comfort »

Dom Romuald Simpson OSB, monk of Douai Abbey, died on 5 July. An obituary will be found here: http://www.douaiabbey.org.uk/obit.htm#Romuald

Romuald was the organising force for many years behind the Panel of Monastic Musicians, which sought not only to provide help and resources to religious communities all over the country, Anglican and well as Catholic, but also to build bridges between the traditions of monastic liturgy and music and parish liturgy and music.

Together with the late Geoffrey Boulton Smith and Fr (now Canon) Alan Griffiths, he travelled the length and breadth of the Diocese of Portsmouth in the 1970s and 80s. Over a number of years the trio provided liturgical and musical formation at a time when few other dioceses had contemplated such a systematic approach.

May he rest in peace.

Romuald was also Chairman of the Society of Saint Gregory from 1987 to 1996.

Thanks, Mary. I did not put that in because I didn't know the dates!

Romuald's funeral is on Monday 16 July at 2:30pm at the Abbey.
