Re: Chrism Mass 2012
Does anywhere have the priests chanting the concelebrants' parts in the Eucharistic Prayer? We used to under Archbishop Maurice but Archbishop Vincent dropped the practice and it has not yet been revived.
Any opinions expressed are my own, not those of the Archdiocese of Birmingham Liturgy Commission, Church Music Committee.

Re: Chrism Mass 2012
I thought the recommended practice was for priests to be barely audible so as not to detract from the single voice of the Bishop or whichever other priests are requested to share a portion of the eucharistic prayer. I am not sure that singing the prayer changes this. Perhaps this is what ++Vincent had in mind?

Re: Chrism Mass 2012
Portsmouth has had all the priests singing the entire EP with the Bishop for 18 years now, including this year (with the new text). A&B had the same practice in 1986-1999 (I think they stopped doing it after +Cormac left, but could be wrong), and Westminster did it in 1977-1979 (when Fr Dan Higgins was the precentor; they definitely don't do it now). Plymouth have been doing it since 1995 (+ Christopher likes it).
Portsmouth experimented with solo principal concelebrants one year (because Mgr Raymond Laurence wanted to try it) but it didn't work and they reverted to all the priests singing everything with the Bishop.
If the Bishop is mic'd, his will be the predominant voice even if all the other priests are singing. It's very powerful when the whole presbyterium is joining in together. People comment on it.
In order for this to happen, you need a tone which the clergy will sing. The two-note Missal tone isn't it. (NT: this is not sniping, just a plain statement of the reality of the situation.)

Please see GIRM 218. Singing the EP is preferred over saying it. (It's "praiseworthy" but not necessary.)

Is it possible to sing this to anything other than Abbot's Leigh ?! Bishop Rowthorn would have a fit if he knew.
