New Secretary to the Department for Christian Life and Worsh

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

I can't find any official announcement of this appointment, not any comment elsewhere on the web.
Very odd.

It may be that this board includes those who would get early notice of this news, and the small number of those (including myself) who give a d***n! If it's true (and I trust the source of the news), then a reading of Fr. Gunter's position and published ideas would suggest it's a significant appointment, that really should be of interest to those other parts of the interweb some of us here visit.

Correctamundo. Our forum includes some people who are members of the various committees of the Department for Christian Life and Worship, diocesan liturgy contacts, etc.

...under a press release dated 5 February! Hopefully a typo rather than the time it takes...

" ... the 1962 Missal ... "

Does anyone in the SSG (and any other of the People of God) have any interest in the above?

Why worship altar rails, latin hymns and cappa magnas?

Yes of course. I'd expect anyone who knows and cares about liturgy to be at least passingly well-acquainted with its contents, especially an awareness what is preserved and what is reformed in the 1970 Missal. 'Having an interest in' is different from 'wanting to make exclusive use of', but either way there's no need to be rude about it.

I'm not being rude.

If people are interested in reducing the N.T. readings from 71% to 17%; the O.T. readings fron 14% to 1%; banning women on the altar; banning communion wine; speaking a foreign language; making translations that do not make sense; composing boring music; wearing cappa magnas; priests facing the wrong way & 'doing the red' (rather than doing the Word of God); then that is their business.

This is a free country. However, none of the above has anything to do with the Gospel.

You are being rude and I have edited the most offensive parts of your last two postings. You are now off topic and further postings in this vein are liable to be deleted - not just edited.

More importantly, and no further off topic, what should the English plural of cappa magna be?

Maybe no further, but still off. ('cappa' is a straightforward 1st declension noun; so: cappae magnae)

Now...

Back to the topic.

The PrayTell announcement of the new Secretary draws attention to a number of articles written by him and made available from the Zenit website through http://www.ewtn.com/library/Liturgy/zspiritliturgy.htm. Be aware that this selection has been made by EWTN and therefore has a somewhat conservative ring to it. Of more practical interest is an article written by him last March concerning the use of missals and missalettes: http://www.zenit.org/article-32126?l=english.

Thanks for the links. The guy actually writes in the English of the new translation. That has cost me a £5 bet.
