It's not surprising there are strong feelings about music & liturgy: if the underlying issues and emotions weren't so central to our experience of common prayer it wouldn't signify. I've backed up the views I've expressed with music I've written, not as a theoretician or independent creative, but as one with some familiarity with the language as singer & arranger in parish circumstances. I hope that any criticism I have also expressed will be taken in that context. I encourage others to have the courage of their convictions & do likewise here, independently of considerations of publication. That is the only way we will begin to make sense of the matter.

I agree, DP - mea maxima. My suggestion above that people post their musical-ideas-in-progress was specifically about work on the Processional texts and other Proper-translations. I have found such shared explorations useful elsewhere, and I believe it would help fulfil John's intentions for the Processional.

Here's another vernacular adaptation of an Offertorio from the Graduale Romanum (2nd Sunday of Lent), this time employing the translation from the Processional. The salient points are:
- I've added some pointing for the psalm verses.
- It required considerably less adaptation than last month's, because the original is so melismatic, i.e. long (& very beautiful) sections are vowel-settings.
