Bumper Music & Liturgy

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

I'll probably get to that too but for now, I think less prolix ideas for intercessions and, in some instances in those presently published, a little more care over composition - e.g.

We pray for those taking public examinations..........pause.........We pray to the Lord.....
That's enough, surely.

We pray for those taking public examinations: That the Spirit of Wisdom may guide them.........
This could read as if the assembly is praying for God to do the exams for the candidates, don't you think? (PtL 20)
Any opinions expressed are my own, not those of the Archdiocese of Birmingham Liturgy Commission, Church Music Committee.

Pity we didn't have that prayer in my day - God might have got me a first!

You mean you didn't involve St Joseph of Cupertino?

(I especially like the web author's confidence: this prayer is very effective! Plus the 'you scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours' element of both prayers. Do other saints offer the same terms, I wonder?)

As a confirmed (geddit?) Apple geek, shouldn't that be St Steve of Cupertino?

Nick Baty - last October - wrote:The latest issue has just landed on the mat with a great thud – it's huge! Delighted to see the Music Planner now goes up to the end of May (Pentecost Sunday)

But traditionally an issue has landed on the mat about now with the summer school booking form in it. The Planner extending so far in advance means that the next issue may well be some time. (I know the editors have a maxim that an issue is not late if the planner is still current) Does this mean that prospective attendees will not be able to book until sometime after Easter?

Fear not, the next issue is in the final stages of preparation and will be going to press soon.

Wait a minute, Nick - knowing you, you've already planned your liturgies for July 2013!

Slight exeggeration, MCB – rough plan up to August this year, although I do have a sketch for building the repertoire of new service music up to 2015.

I'm glad to read, Nick, that you have not included your funeral in the forward planning!

Trust me, if I knew the date of my funeral and, therefore, the readings of the day, I would have done. Am hoping to have a little Liza at the crem.

Whenever 'Lo, he comes with clouds descending' comes around, my PP reminds me that it is his favourite hymn and that he wants it sung at his funeral. And I always ask him when that will be.
