The New Texts: Events for Parish Musicians (announcements)

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Spotted yesterday on the parish website for Corpus Christi, Weston-super-Mare:
New Translation:
As a result of the overwhelming response to our recent day on music for the new translation the Department of Liturgy has arranged, in conjunction with Clifton Music Service, two further days in different areas of the Diocese. The first will be in St Patrick’s, Brockworth, on 16 July and the second in St George’s, Taunton, on 23 July. Both days will begin with Mass in the New Translation at 10am. Please ensure that you book with Doreen Wyatt on 01275 851591 or email liturgy@cliftondiocese.com by at least one week before the day which you wish to attend as places are limited.

Just to confirm that these days are taking place - Brockworth is tomorrow, Taunton next week. Also planning more intensive music learning days later this year.

Would have posted sooner but haven't had a chance since getting my SSG forum login confirmation.

I've just received notification of 3 workshops to be run by the Diocese of Southwark Music Committee:

24th Sept. "The New Rite", St Anselm's School Hall, Tooting, main speaker Fr. Alan Griffiths with musical input by Fr. Alan McLean and Mag Shepherd.

29th Oct. "Kent Liturgical Music Day, St Teresa's Ashford, led by Mag Shepherd (looking at a broad spectrum of liturgical settings including settings for the new translation).

27th Nov. "A day with Paul Inwood", St Anselm's School Hall, Tooting, "....Paul will discuss with us the new translation of the Roman Missal and lead us through some of the new compositions available.

If you are in Southwark, your priest should have details, otherwise contact The Most Holy Trinity Church, Dockhead, London SE1 2BS.

If I travel safely back from work in Maryland USA I will be leading a day for education staff of Cardiff Diocese on the revised translation on Tuesday 27 September somewhere in Cardiff. I'm sure if you search on their education website it will give you the details you may need. It may be a closed meeting in which case apologies for alerting you unnecessarily.

New Music for the Mass – Salford Cathedral Centre, 5 Nov

Post by mcb »

New Music for the Mass: a day for parish music directors, organists, singers and other musicians

You are invited to a day at the Cathedral Centre, Salford, on Saturday 5 November (10.30 am – 4.00 pm) to look at music for the new translation of the Missal. This is a repeat of the event held in June of this year, so if you missed out on that occasion, we hope you'll be able to join us this time round. Places are limited to 60, so do please get your booking in early!

Martin Barry (Director of Music at Salford Cathedral) and Fr Peter Jones (parish priest, composer and chair of the Archdiocese of Birmingham Church Liturgy and Music Committee) will present a day of new music for the Mass, introducing a wide range musical settings written for the new translation of the Missal.

The admission charge is £10, which includes a buffet lunch and tea, coffee, etc., during the day. Please pay on the day upon arrival. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Salford Cathedral’.

For catering purposes and the production of materials please ensure that you book for the day by e-mailing martin.barry@manchester.ac.uk. You can also e-mail Martin if you have any questions about the day.

If you do not have access to e-mail then you can ring Cathedral House on 0161 834 0333 in order to book for the day. Please give your full name and contact details.

We look forward to seeing you there!
