By a commercial publisher? No, they are not. ... Please do not confuse being waged/salaried/employed with receiving legitimate royalty payments - which are small sums of money.
Do you seriously think I'm confusing those, presbyter?
JW wrote:Composing music isn't really part of a priest's job description.
If a priest has a job description, and if neither publishing literary material nor composing music are mentioned in the job description as being obligations, and if they are not activities that he receives income for, do they therefore constitute private activity for which he is entitled to request payment, just like any publisher?

No but some people might.
Canon Law wrote:Can. 286 Clerics are prohibited from conducting business or trade personally or through others, for their own advantage or that of others, except with the permission of legitimate ecclesiastical authority.

So the permission of legitimate ecclesiastical authority is presumably fairly easy to come by, at least if you are a Jesuit writing a book.
I am informed that the subject work of this thread is in print and will be available to Summer School participants next Thursday (as one item in a new collection of music for the Mass). That's the SATB version. I understand that the version for Cantor and People will be appearing in two hymnal supplements soon.

I see that the editors of this collection are of one mind with the recent reviewers of Nick Baty's music, in that the St Clare and Warrington Acclamations are worthy of wide distribution.

The editors are to be commended for their excellent taste. However, the editors of another collection have suggested they might prefer the Bakhita Acclamations or Seanathair Acclamations. Of course, I wouldn't dream of suggesting that anyone click on the links to have a look!
I would have expected all the settings contained in the collection listed on the Liturgy Office website. For example, settings by Christopher Walker and Stephen Dean are listed but none by Peter Jones, not even the Coventry Gloria. I'm intrigued?
Is there any reliable news yet from the other major christian resources publisher who seem to be dragging their heels on the new translations. Are they going to ignore it completely for the time being and surrender this area of Catholic liturgy?
