Re: Meatless Fridays
Disambiguation: In this context "low impact" referred to the impact of the chosen practice on your weekly routine and personal preferences, rather than the impact on the global ecosystem or wellbeing of others. In that sense, abstaining from meat on Fridays has zero-impact on a committed vegetarian who had freely and happily chosen to abstain from meat for many years - but significant positive impact on the ecosystem.

Aquinus mentions also milk, eggs, butter, cheese and lard as things to fast from.
No wonder fish became the dish.
A new kind of fast- food. Fish and er, well chips? But only cooked in vegetable oil. Something oven ready for Mossers, that has little relationship to any kind of meat or food, that could be the answer.
Who was it ate sausages on Good Friday Melancthon? Zwingli? Must have been German sausages because the EU does not classify our sausages as meat due to, well, lack of meat.
The bear will be after me. Quick, throw some fish........

Re: Meatless Fridays
There are stories (apochryphal no doubt, but may be a revelation) that beavers were defined as fish at one time in N America (for the purposes of abstinence). If this were reintroduced/made compulsory it would be high impact on both the environment and my lifestyle.
